River Tour for Zoning Ordinance with Innovaterra consultants

Most recently the Belize City Council has been working alongside Innovaterra Consultants to the Inter-American Development Bank Mr Jean-Roch Lebeau and Mr Carlos Barillas for the Zoning Ordinance which is a part of the Emerging & Sustainable Cities Program.

Land and River tours were conducted to assist the consultants in the gathering of much-needed data which showcased Belize’s present land use, the utilization of our coastal areas as well as our residential and commercial zones. The river tour was especially scenic and provided a greater appreciation for our Belizean coast.

Councilor Goodin accompanies Belize City’s Child Advisory Body in Corozal Workshop

Belize City’s Child Advisory Body has been preparing itself for great projects in 2018 to impact the city on issues relating to children and youths. So in an effort to strengthen relations with the other CABs in the other 8 municipalities as well as to establish the guiding principles for how CAB is to be ran for maximum productivity and effectiveness, current CAB President Kendice Armstrong, Councilor Micah Goodin with the portfolio of Youth & Sports was in attendance in place of Councilor Dr. Candice Pitts; Technical Steering Committee member and Parks & Playgrounds Manager Louis Thompson Jr. and Belize City Council’s Public Relations Officer and CAB Coordinator Sharin Pitts were all in attendance at the Technical Steering Committee Workshop held in  Corozal.

The Technical Steering Committee workshop certainly accomplishment its goal of assisting the CABs with their Strategic Plan for 2018 as well as identifying the challenges each CAB is faced with. Belize City’s Child Advisory Body President Kendice Armstrong certainly took away plenty from it to return to her CAB with.  Additionally, the efforts made by the Councillors of the different municipalities were evidentin their participation. Councillors in attendance were our very own Councillor Goodin alongside Councillor Isidoro Richie Galvez of Belmopan City Council, Councillor Vanessa Neal of San Ignacio/Santa Elena Town Council and Councillor Dilan Cassanova of Corozal Town Council.

The Belize City Council advises the general public that all City Council Offices will be closed Thursday, March 29th, 2018 (Holy Thursday) at 1:00 p.m. Normal working hours resume Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018 at 8:00 a.m.

Child Advisory Body (CAB) making waves

We are always looking for ways to incorporate our Belizean children and youths into our projects. Our Child Advisory Body is a perfect example of this. Established 3 years ago and going strong. We commenced our first meeting of 2018 with plenty of ideas for our upcoming projects with a focus on networking with different groups and organizations in the areas of: Education, Recreation, the Environment, etc, etc. to help establish relationships as well as getting CAB to be a household name and create a sense of familiarity with our Belizean public. Memorial Park Kiosks in Belize City

Small businesses make up the very heart of the Belize City Council so we spear no expense in catering to the needs of those needing a space to get exposure of their products and services to the incoming tourists of the Fort George area. Tour Guide & Braider’s Pavilion

Our Tourism Industry is flourishing and as such we need to ensure some of our key players such as our Tour Guides have a proper place to get settled in preparation of an active day.  As well it was recognized that the Hair Braiders’ have become synonymous with the hustle and bustle that attracts tourists to the Fort George area. So taking this into consideration, a Pavilion was built to house these 2 Associations.

We can all collectively agree that the Commercial Center building on Regent Street has become an eyesore to everyone in view. However, with the Rehabilitation Project well underway we hope to restore the pride and beauty to one of our city’s main focal points for residents and tourists alike. The Belize City Council and its partnership with Belize Tourism Board (BTB) and National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) have been successful in identifying the very best in architectural infrastructure and urban development for Belize. BCC is intent on renovating the Commercial Center and cementing its historical value where it stands.
