This afternoon, Mayor Bernard Wagner and Councilors met with Mr. Andres Azaola, the General Manager of the Tourist Village on Fort Street. Mr Azaola spoke of the improvements that have taken place since taking over in 2015 including amping up security inside the Village that have skyrocketed international ratings. He also spoke of improving business for the licensed tour operators outside of the Village and is willing to collaborate with the Council to improve the experience and security of the tourists venturing outside the village exploring city streets. He also indicated he is excited to partner with us on future upcoming ventures.
Belize City Fort George Tourism Zone Management Committee (FGTZ) held its first meeting since the March 2018 election. Present at the meeting were representatives from the Belize City Council, Belize Tourism Board, Belize Tourism Industry Association, Business Owner and Home Owner. In addition, Mr. Hubert Pipersburgh was selected as the new chairperson.

Shortly before noon today the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Councillors as well as the Finance Director met with the Belize Tourism Board’s Director of Cruise and Destination Planning Ms. Noriko Gamero to discuss the way forward for Belize City and the Tourism Industry. A strategic plan inclusive of the artisans who are to occupy the kiosks of the Memorial Park, the Tour Operators and Tour Guides being more structured. As well as the safety of tourists and vendors. Note we did say, ‘the way forward for Belize City’ meaning how we can improve the quality of and create new tourist attractions across the city. The discussion was primarily for the benefit of the people within this industry.
